Stable Base, Proper Drainage, Long-Lasting Surface
From cottage lanes to estate driveways, we build roads that drain, compact, and hold up to Ontario freeze–thaw and plow traffic. Serving Georgian Bay & Simcoe County.
Built for Ontario Conditions
A good-looking driveway starts below the surface. We strip organics, correct drainage, install geotextile where soils are weak, place the right aggregates in the right order, and compact to spec. The result is a driveway or private road that doesn’t rut in spring or pothole after the first winter.
- Proper ditching, culverts & water control
- Geotextile on poor or wet subgrades
- Layered aggregates with mechanical compaction
- Correct crown/shed to move water off the surface
Typical Scope
- Layout, clearing & subgrade proof-roll
- Topsoil/organics strip; cut/fill to design grade
- Geotextile separator (as needed)
- Base: Granular B (2″ minus) or equivalent
- Top: Granular A (¾″ minus) or screenings—your choice
- Culverts, swales, drive entrances, and aprons
- Compaction to spec; final shaping & cleanup
Asphalt or interlock prep available; we’ll build the base to the finish you plan to install.
Our Process
1) Assessment & Design
We review soils, grades, water paths, entrances, and turning radii. We set design thicknesses and materials for your usage (cars, delivery trucks, plows).
2) Subgrade & Drainage
Strip organics, shape ditches, set culverts with proper cover and outlets. Install geotextile over weak soils to separate fines from stone.
3) Base Construction
Place Granular B, compact in lifts. Establish crown (or crossfall) so water sheds—not ponds.
4) Surface Course
Install Granular A (¾″ minus) or screenings/top mix, compact to a tight, plow-friendly finish. Asphalt/interlock prep if required.
5) Entrances & Aprons
Township entrance geometry, sightlines, and apron transitions handled to local standards. We coordinate permits as needed.
6) Final Walk-Through
We check drainage after hose or rain test, adjust crown, and leave you with maintenance tips for the first season.
Surfaces & Finishes
Choose the finish that fits your property and budget—we’ll build the base accordingly.

Private Roads & Cottage Lanes
For longer drives we plan pull-outs, drainage breaks, and cross-culverts where grades demand it. Winter access and plow turn-arounds are considered from the start.
- Geotextile / geogrid for weak sections
- Cross-culverts at low points
- Pull-outs & turning circles
- Emergency vehicle access widths

Driveways & Private Roads — FAQs
How thick should the driveway be?
Typical passenger-vehicle drives: 8–12″ total stone (in lifts) over a prepared subgrade; private roads or truck access may need 12–18″+ depending on soils. We confirm after a site review.
Do I need geotextile?
On clay, organics, or wet areas, geotextile prevents fines from pumping up into the stone. It greatly improves lifespan where soils are weak.
Do I need a permit for a new entrance?
Yes—most townships require an entrance/culvert permit off public roads. We’ll help with the application and set culvert size/cover to spec.
What’s better: Granular A or screenings on top?
Granular A (¾″ minus) compacts well and drains. Screenings compact very tight and look clean but can hold water; great for interlock base or light-use lanes. We’ll recommend based on slope and traffic.
When is the best season to build?
Late spring through fall is ideal. We also build in winter when the ground is frozen to protect soils—materials and compaction are adjusted to temperature.
